Raymond Loewy, an American industrial designer who was born in France, helped design the streamlined styling of our 1940s International Harvester tractors and equipment. Streamline Moderne was a style of design that became popular in the early to middle years of the 20th century. Loewy’s pod-shaped, streamlined pencil sharpener, which the US Postal Service immortalized on a stamp, bears a familial styling similarity to our International tractors, as does this steam locomotive, which Loewy designed for the Pennsylvania Railroad.
