Setting up at the Long Island Fair.  This fair has the old-fashioned charm of a Tasha Tudor illustration, but with somewhat fewer Corgis.

Cold Press Apple Cider

Juicing?  Try Wickham’s Fruit Farm’s cold press apple cider.  We press our apple cider here on the premises with the same old-fashioned rack-and-cloth press we have been using for decades.  The cider press was built in 1904.

We press our cider cold, in small batches.  We do not heat the juice, we do not use high-pressure treatment, and we do not reconstitute the juice the way mass-market apple juice makers do.  Because our rack-and-cloth press is powered by mechanical gears and leather belts rather than hydraulics, our press operates at low pressure.  Our press does not develop enough pressure to squeeze the seeds and stems.  As a result, our apple cider tastes mellow, and different from cider pressed on modern, high-pressure machines.

We do not put any additives in our cider.  What is in the bottle is 100% juice from pressed apples and nothing else.

All of our cider is UV light processed for safe drinking.  We usually press cider twice a week.  Call 631-734-6441 if you are interested in seeing the cider press in operation.

It’s time once again for the Long Island Fair, to be held from September 24 into part of October at Old Bethpage Village Restoration in Nassau County.  Wickham’s Fruit Farm recommends this fair.  The Long Island Fair makes alive for the community the sights, sounds, and flavor of early Long Island.  When you go, don’t miss the produce exhibits.  We will be exhibiting our fruit there, as in past years, and we hope to come home with some blue ribbons.
